I have covered many assignments, but this assignment was by far the most shocking and disturbing assignment yet. In 2015 a political rally turned into a ground of tragedy. At a political rally organized by the Aam Aadmi Party in New Delhi, a farmer committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in front of thousands.

Few hours before the suicide I had seen the farmer climb the tree, sitting down on a branch lower down. In India it’s normal for people to sit on trees and watch the theatrics of events. As the rally started to get active, crowds started to get distracted and agile, shouting and shrieking, rushing towards a tree. I rushed making my way towards a higher ground, to get a stock of the commotion. Around 50 meters from where I was standing, I saw a human figure through the leaves, dangling on the edge. The farmer had committed suicide, leaving behind a note stating he had faced losses due to crop failure. He was from the dry arid state of Rajasthan.
